It’s not just the battery that makes Sonata Hybrid a more efficient vehicle. The Sonata Hybrid features a newly designed 2.0L 4-cylinder engine that runs on regular gasoline and offers Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) for smooth acceleration and efficient cruising resulting in improved fuel economy with an EPA-estimated 44 Highway MPG.
Compared to the battery used in Camry Hybrid*, the Sonata Hybrid uses a polymer gel as the electrolyte in its battery. This allows for a thinner and lighter casing, which translates to more cargo and interior volume. It also discharges more slowly to maintain available power longer than nickel-metal hydride batteries.
Using a fully parallel Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) system provides optimum power, with engine and battery power supply working simultaneously. The Sonata Hybrid switches seamlessly between a gasoline engine and an electric motor to deliver efficient power. The gasoline engine delivers the primary charge energy for the lithium polymer batteries while the regenerative braking system provides supplemental energy.
Everybody has a different take on steering feel. Some want more steering effort, others less. Well, with Drive Mode Select, now you get to choose. Drive Mode Select adjusts both engine and transmission mapping as well as steering calibration to match your driving style. Select from three modes: Eco, Normal or Sport by simply touching a button on the center console.
The standard LED Daytime Running Lights and LED tail lights not only look great but also increase visibility. The available HID Xenon headlights are a brilliant upgrade, while the available Automatic High Beam Assist feature automatically switches from high to low beam headlights when an oncoming vehicle is detected by the forward-looking camera.
This standard feature makes loading and unloading your Sonata Hybrid more convenient. The hands-free smart trunk opens automatically when it senses the Proximity Key is behind the vehicle within three feet for more than three seconds.
The Sonata Hybrid’s all-new design is different, but not eccentric. A raked roofline, sleek modern design plus 16-inch or available 17-inch alloy wheels and a standard rear lip spoiler lower aerodynamic drag while adding style. Additional exterior features include a unique front bumper and larger grille, plus an aerodynamic rear lower fascia. The distinct LED Day-time Running Lights up front and LED tail lights also distinguish the Sonata Hybrid. Standard side mirror-mounted turn-signal indicators increase visibility and appeal, while the Blue Drive® badge shows you're leading the way to lower emissions.
Most modern trip computers help you drive smarter and more efficiently. You can see average speed, average and instant fuel consumption, and miles to empty—but the Sonata Hybrid technology display, with its 4.2-inch LCD color screen, takes the idea of control a step further. It displays the status of vehicle operation and hybrid energy flow plus available safety features such as Smart Cruise Control and Lane Departure Warning.
The available navigation system features an interactive 8-inch touchscreen or drivers can use voice-recognition to get directions without distractions plus a world of music and content options. SiriusXM Travel Link® allows you to search for nearby businesses like gas stations, ATMs or restaurants. It also gives you a clear picture of current traffic situations, the weather, stocks and sports, all in real time. Plus, it can even let you know fuel prices and movie times.
A standard 5-inch color touchscreen audio system with rearview camera offers enhanced audio quality and rear visibility. Select the available 8-inch touchscreen navigation with 400-watt Infinity® audio system that features AM/FM/CD/MP3 and HD Radio™ technology. It also comes with SiriusXM Satellite Radio for the best commercial-free radio with a complimentary three-month subscription. Plus the built-in smartphone/USB and auxiliary input jacks let you access your smartphone through the audio controls, display track and artist information, even charge it as it plays.
This standard feature makes loading and unloading your Sonata Hybrid more convenient. The hands-free smart trunk opens automatically when it senses the Proximity Key is behind the vehicle within three feet for more than three seconds.

The available distance sensors embedded into the rear bumper make parking as simple as driving. They produce a warning sound for the driver if the rear of the car gets too close to any object.
This standard feature offers added protection for the driver and is just one more innovative element of Sonata Hybrid’s comprehensive passive and active safety systems.
Forward Collision Warning is an available feature that uses a forward-sensing camera to look down the road, determine the closing speed of your vehicle in relation to the vehicle ahead and provide an audible warning that alerts the driver to a potential collision.
